Juryrapport Zilveren Camera Paul Peters Fotoprijs

“Whilst photographing Dingemans is searching for her own position on the subject and takes us with her on this journey. Her viewpoint is close-up and loving however not with irony. The series is filled with the clumsiness of our daily lives and confronts us with our own discomforts.” Jury report Zilveren Camera Paul Peters Fotoprijs

Dutch documentary photographer Mariet Dingemans (1971) is always looking for the moment people act like themselves the most, the moment they don’t feel watched. Even if that’s not the most flattering moment. She photographs what people don’t show initially but what does make them human.

With a background in Cultural Anthropology Dingemans is interested in communities and groups. She tries to capture which rituals, habits, clothing, food, objects, furniture, ways of talking and moving make a group of people feel they belong together. And how the individual relates to the group.

Mariet Dingemans works on long term documentary projects and does commissioned work for various clients like the Amsterdam City Council.
